Meet our #SDBC Feature of the Week! Essential Workers Edition

Joanne "Jo" Schmidt is a Family Nurse Practitioner residing in New York City. She is currently serving in a nursing leadership role at the NYC Administration for Children’s Services.

In 2002, Joanne received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SUNY College at Brockport where she was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar. In 2014, she received her Master of Science in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at New York University. There she received multiple scholarships and honors including induction into Sigma Theta Tau International, Nursing Honor Society. Joanne is currently attending Yale University where she was awarded the Donna Diers Merit Scholarship and a coveted Gruber Foundation Fellowship.

Joanne is working as a pediatric clinician on the frontlines during the COVID pandemic. Here, she is caring for one of New York City’s most vulnerable populations. She says, “we must all do our part, no matter how small we think that is, because to someone else it is big.”
