Meet our #SDBC Feature of the Week!

Ashali Snead learned to braid at 6 years old and received her first payment of $30 for styling hair at 10 years old. That $30 changed her life forever. In 2003, after graduating from Edison Tech she enrolled in a cosmetology program. She practiced day and night on childhood friends and family. After years of styling she opened her own salon, The Loc Lounge, and released her loc mist, KinQues. She’s styled a number of clients and even styled hair for one of the contestants on season 7 of BET's SUNDAY'S BEST.

In addition to being a talented cosmetologist, she’s a motivational speaker. She’s spoken at Respect Your Crown Mixer, Autumn Rise Foundation Tea Time, Black Business Roc, Rock Ya Locs and Happy Hour, a panel discussion about modern day Christians.

Ashali has used her talents in other ways, too, like being a contributor and hairstylist for BREAKTHRU magazine, co-host of “Luv N Situationships” radio show, and the creator of Locs & Community, which brings together people to share good vibes, and love of hair and music. The very first and sold out event held was Locs & Love Songs, followed by Locs and Lanes (Brunch and Bowling).

She is committed to empowering men and women, using her knowledge and expertise to address their hair, mind and body in a healthy and spiritual way. She has a degree in ministry and also became a certified Reiki Master. Ashali spends much time in the community, volunteering and supporting local businesses. Her voice can be heard every Tuesday morning at 9am on her Podcast “Ash (Ask) Me Anything” which can be found on various outlets.
