Meet our #SDBC Feature of the Week! Essential Workers Edition

Ashlee Alexander graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's in business management in 2010. Some five years later she fell into the nursing field. She wasn't quite satisfied with the career opportunities available post college. She parted ways with her job of eight years and set off on a new track. 

She became a home health aide and quickly realized how much she loved caring for people. She was inspired to give school another go. She became an LPN through Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES in August of 2015.

She says the last five years of her nursing career have been amazing. Nine months post grad she became a travel nurse and has had the opportunity to practice in West Virginia, Kentucky, Vermont, and Idaho. She’s worked in both acute and long term care and is currently working toward a BSN.

There's a Maya Angelou quote that she says stays in the back of her mind when working with patients, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Ashlee says, “Great conversation and laughter help to make any cloudy day bright. I look to be a ray of sunshine to all those I come across. In doing so, I've had the pleasure of working with and caring for some beautiful souls. Even in the midst of a pandemic, genuine love and kindness prevails.”
