Meet our #SDBC Feature of the Week!

Genia Wright is Chief Operating and Financial Officer for Vera Institute, a national nonprofit organization fighting to end mass incarceration and secure equal justice for all. Based in Brooklyn, NY, Genia also sits on the Leadership Council for East Harlem Tutoring Program, volunteers with the NAACP, and is a founding trustee for the Diversity by Design Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to creating racial diversity in the design industry.

In 2019, Genia launched an online presence called the Free Time Aficionado. In this capacity, she works to inspire people to maximize their free time by promoting black culture and businesses. On any given day, she can be found exploring a new city or country; trying a new restaurant, sport or museum; performing stand-up or improv; or taking a class to learn something new. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Genia was trained in improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade and has degrees from Howard University and the George Washington University in Washington, DC.

When asked how she is living her best life as a single woman she said, “I strive to live a life that positively impacts my community and is full of joy and adventure. I don’t want to take one breath of this life for granted.”
