SDBC Feature of the Week: Kendra White

Meet our #SDBC Feature of the Week!

Kendra White is a community service professional that delivers integrity and compassion, as well as confidentiality in her employed roles. She is a beacon of reliability as a “safe space” to those most vulnerable in our community and to their well-being. She currently is working toward the creation of a media outlet highlighting the young men of our community after having served as a long-term substitute teacher at the Leadership Academy for Young Men. This outlet determines to showcase the kind of built relationships in our school systems that turn friends into extended family, furthering into the expansion of a community of neighbors that would ultimately bridge every zip code.

Kendra is a graduate of Wilson Magnet High School and went on to earn her Associates of Science Degree in Business Administration from Monroe Community College. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a minor in African American Studies from Brockport College. She has worked in several community service capacities, and has been involved in roles serving the youth of the community including but not limited to Rochester Works as a Summer Youth Employment Monitor, and an employee of the City of Rochester’s Summer Meals Program. Some of her most demanding and rewarding work has been fulfilled during her time as an employee for Child Protective Services.

Kendra enjoys and finds beauty in high fashion couture, but you can find her in a consignment shop on any day, or “digging in the dirt to make flowers bloom” when working in the yard. She loves to travel and would like to more often as she is most likely to be found in Syracuse to have lunch and enjoy the fall foliage, or on a day trip to New York City for Christmas. She is a woman of faith and deep belief in God, and says, “I get in my car and drive. God has protected me from two major car accidents, and I know it was only Him. I owe Him not myself, but my life.” As a Single Dope Black Chick in her own right, while she may not be a parent or have a spouse yet, Kendra is making sure she is fulfilled in all her singleness first!
